Wichita State’s Master of Arts (MA) in criminal justice combines quality curriculum in theory and practice, a flexible online option and a new location within the Law Enforcement Training Center on WSU’s Innovation Campus. Graduates are well prepared for positions in criminal justice system practice, management, policymaking, as well as in research, teaching and further study in law and other areas.

Curriculum

The program consists of 36 credit hours at the 500-level or above, including 24 credit hours of electives. You'll complete four core courses and also choose from electives based on your interests and career goals.

Criminal Justice within the Master’s Program is viewed as a broad, interdisciplinary discipline comprised of the scientific study of crime and the criminal justice system. Our interdisciplinary faculty hold degrees in criminology, criminal justice, psychology, sociology, law, and public administration. The Master's program focuses on both theory and criminal justice practice in the belief that neither stands alone. The integration of theory and practice prepares students for positions in criminal justice system practice, management, policymaking, as well as in research, teaching, and preparation for law school or further graduate study. Students can work with faculty members with diverse areas of expertise, including policing, crime prevention, sexual violence, comparative criminology, human trafficking, cybercrime, racial profiling, terrorism, and corrections. The program has two formats: traditional (in-person) and online.

Applicants for full-standing degree admission to the specialist and master’s programs typically must have: Earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or a recognized institution in another country whose requirements for the bachelor’s degree are substantially equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree. The minimum acceptable scores for most programs are: TOEFL - 79 on the Internet-based test, or 550 on the paper-based test. IELTS - minimum overall band score of 6.5 is required. PTE Academic - 58.
