Qualifying Studies (QS) is for students who need to upgrade their education to gain admission to UFV certificate, diploma, or degree programs; are undecided about their post-secondary goals; have missed a university program admission deadline; have failed to meet the continuance requirements of a UFV program.

Each QS student is required to meet with an Academic Advisor in the Advising Centre early in the academic journey to develop an education plan. Developing a plan with an Academic Advisor will help students:

  • Understand QS requirements and regulations;
  • Refine personal educational goals and understand available choices;
  • Identify which developmental-level courses (courses numbered below 100) and/or undergraduate courses (courses numbered 100 and above) are needed to meet the entrance requirements for the program(s) of choice;
  • Identify which undergraduate courses may be applied to the program(s) of choice at a later date; and
  • Ensure the transferability of courses to other post-secondary institutions, if the goal is to enter a program at another institution.

In order to be admitted to the University Foundation certificate program, students must meet the requirements for either Level 1 or Level 2. Level 1 - Placement at level 070 of UFV ELS program, or Completion of one of: EAP 064 (formerly ESL WG64), EAP 066 (formerly ESL S66), and EAP 068(formerly ESL RV68) or articulated equivalent with a minimum GPA 2.33; TOEFL 500 (173 CBT/61 iBT); IELTS 5, CanTest 4.0, CAEL 50, LPI essay score 20 (level 3), MELAB 70. Level 2 - Placement at level 080 of UFV ELS program, or Completion of one of: EAP 070 (formerly ESL R70) and EAP 074 (formerly ESL WG74) or articulated equivalent with a minimum GPA 2.33. TOEFL 550 (213 CBT/79 iBT); IELTS 6, CanTest 4.5; CAEL 60, LPI essay score 25 (level 4), MELAB 80, CPT 41.
