Students at the University of Lethbridge prepare themselves to apply for admission to a number of professional programs offered at other institutions, like Veterinary Medicine at the University of Calgary. Students will gain the necessary course work and experience to apply to Veterinary Medicine at uCalgary by pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BSc) at uLethbridge with a major in:

Agricultural Biotechnology
Biochemistry
Biological Sciences
Chemistry, or
Neuroscience

Most successful applicants to veterinary medicine programs will have completed a baccalaureate degree prior to admission. However, to be considered, prospective students must have completed a minimum of two full years of university courses at the time of application.

Interested students should refer to the Program Planning Guide for detailed information about the veterinary medicine program, relevant uLethbridge BSc degrees (e.g. biological sciences) and recommended courses.

The likelihood of acceptance increases with the level of education achieved. Admission to veterinary medicine is not solely based on the courses completed and the GPA obtained, academic and extracurricular involvement at the uLethbridge is strongly recommended. This can include applied studies, co-operative education and volunteering.

Senior Secondary School Certificate of Graduation and an average grade of 72% or higher (where 60% is the passing grade). English Language Requirements: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) taken within the last two years, with minimum scores of: 550 on the paper-based TOEFL and 4.0 on the Test of Written English (TWE); or 80 on the internet-based TOEFL (iBT), with minimum scores of 16 in each of Listening, Reading, and Speaking, and a minimum score of 18 in Writing; Academic International English Languages Testing System (IELTS) test, taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 6.0, and a minimum 6.0 in each band; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic score, taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 54; Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment, taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 60, with a minimum 50 in each of Listening, Reading, and Speaking, and 60 in Writing; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE), with a minimum score of ‘C’; Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE), with a minimum score of at ‘C’; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB), with a minimum overall score of 80, with a minimum 76 in each component, including the Speaking test.
