Why is this course for me?

Radiographers are responsible for producing high-quality images to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. While radiography is a caring profession, it’s also one that requires considerable technological and scientific expertise in both the production of images and the responsible delivery of ionizing radiation. If you’re interested in science and you want to use your knowledge to care for people, Radiography at UCD may be a perfect fit for you. Our aim is to prepare graduate radiographers to meet the everyday challenges arising from ongoing advances in diagnostic imaging and healthcare.

Professional Work Experience

Radiography will first be demonstrated in UCD’s own imaging facilities before you progress to performing examinations on patients. Teaching hospitals also participate in your training and you’ll work alongside radiography colleagues to learn and refine your professional skills.

International Study Opportunities

Erasmus opportunities exist in fourth year, where you may spend a three-month period in one of our current partner institutions in Austria, Belgium, Finland, Greece, the Netherlands, Norway, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden and the UK. Further elective opportunities to the USA are also available at various stages within the programme.

Career & Graduate Study Opportunities

Diagnostic imaging is a growth area in Ireland and internationally. All graduates in the past five years have obtained employment as radiographers. As well as the traditional hospital-based career, some radiographers are employed as applications or sales specialists.

An increasing number of graduates are now undertaking PhD studies. Diagnostic imaging offers successful graduates exciting opportunities to pursue research and/or to develop specialist clinical skills.

Students must have Award of Regional Ministry of Education/Municipal Education Commission (or equivalent) approved Senior Secondary School Graduation Certificate and GaoKao result. In some circumstances the Huikao may be acceptable. Students must have Cambridge A Level: At least three subjects at A Level Grade C and three other subjects at GCSE Level Grade C. UCD requires Baccalauréat de l'Enseignement Secondaire + 1 year at a recognised university (Diplôme de … (plus professional field); Diplôme d'Etudes Supérieures; Diplôme d'Ingénieur/d'Architecte d'Etat or Licence). English language requirements: IELTS - An average score of 6.5 over all components and a minimum of 6.0 in each band on the Academic Version; A minimum score of 600 in the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL PBT), with Test of Written English at 475 +, a minimum score of 90 is required in the Internet based TOEFL (IBT); Pearson English Language Text: Minimum of 63 and at least 59 for each item in the Communicative Skills section.
