This programme provides students with communicative skills and knowledge of the language to communicate proficiently and competently as well as to participate actively and confidently at local and international platforms such as conferences, forums and career-related activities (training programmes, board meetings, interviews, consultations, etc).

The Bachelor of Arts (Hons) English Language is designed to develop graduates with in-depth knowledge and understanding of the theories and use of the English language in this modern world.

It also trains and develops them in the field of English to meet the increasing communicative demands and needs of globalisation by providing a strong foundation and the necessary language skills to keep abreast with the latest developments in English and linguistic studies. Students are also introduced to the general area of Mass Communication with emphasis in Journalism and Public Relations.

UTAR welcomes applicants with any of the following qualifications for entry to Bachelor's Honours Degree Programme: Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM); Unified Examination Certificate (UEC); A-Levels; South Australian Matriculation (SAM); Canadian Pre-University (CPU). Entry with Other Qualifications: Applicants with qualifications other than those described above, for example, a Diploma from a college/institution/polytechnic may also apply for admission to UTAR programmes. English Language Requirements: International English Language Testing System ( IELTS ): 5.0; Internet-based Testing (IBT) TOEFL: 42; Cambridge English: 154; Pearson Test of English (PTE): 47; Malaysia University English Test (MUET): Band 3.
