The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) is designed to prepare students for success in the commercial, non-profit and public sectors of the Canadian and global economy, while engaging in their communities.

Rather than giving you a highly theoretical “big business” degree, Mount Royal’s distinctive four-year program features experiential learning in the classroom and co-operative work experience opportunities. Once you graduate with a BBA, you’ll be prepared to hit the ground running and make your mark in the business world.

You will have the opportunity to specialize in one of four majors listed below. The General Management major allows you to focus in other fields of business as a minor. You may also use the General Management major to pursue minors in areas of study offered outside of the Bissett School of Business.

Accounting involves collecting financial information and analyzing it in order to direct individuals and organizations. Highlighting the most recent trends in the industry and providing hands-on experience, the Bachelor of Business Administration Accounting program is designed to give students an edge in the job market. With the expanding global economy, changing tax regulations and new financial reporting standards accountants are in high demand. There is such a need for accounting expertise that many students receive job offers before they graduate, from a wide variety of organizations in a number of industries.

Career Opportunities:

Analyst - Evaluate and interpret public company financial statements. Within an organization work closely with divisional managers to make the best decisions and identify ways to improve profitability.

Controller - Act in a management level position with responsibility for supervising the quality of accounting and financial reporting of an organization. Within a business organization thee responsibilities would include overseeing accounting and reporting, monitoring internal controls, and countersigning on expenses and commitments.

External Auditor - Lead the external audit in an independent examination of the financial statements prepared by the organization, typically for statutory purposes (required by law).

Internal Auditor - Be the catalyst for improving an organization’s governance, risk management and management controls by providing insight and recommendations based on analyses and assessments of data and business processes.

Management Accountant - Within an organization, analyze financial information and prepare financial reports to determine or maintain records of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liability, or other financial activities.

Public Accountant - Serve as the external accountant to clients such as businesses (retailers, manufacturers, service companies, etc.), individuals, value-driven enterprises and governments. Service is typically includes preparation, review, and audit of clients’ financial statements; tax work including the preparation of personal and corporate income tax returns, and estate and tax planning; consulting and advice involving accounting systems, mergers and acquisitions.
