The BSc (Hons) in Hotel Management programme educates students about the business of hotel and food service management. Its customer-service focus enables graduates to excel in the hotel and food service industry.

This multidisciplinary programme prepares students for careers at the management level in the hotel, food service, and broader service industries, either locally or internationally. Students learn to be customer-focused, analytical, and independent, and at the same time develop communication and leadership skills. They also gain a global perspective to meet the growing challenges facing the dynamic hotel and food service industry.

The programme offers a minor or free electives track.

Program structure:

The BSc (Hons) in Hotel Management programme follows the norm of 124 or 121 academic credits for graduation. Students must complete: (a) 30 credits of General University Requirements (GUR), which include Healthy Lifestyle, Language & Communication Requirements (LCR), Cluster Area Requirements (CAR), and Common Mandatory Subjects; and (b) 76 credits required by a major study, which includes 16 common subjects (46 credits) taken by hotel management and tourism and events management students, six specialist subjects (18 credits), two career track option subjects (6 credits), and an honours thesis (6 credits) or two capstone projects (6 credits).

Furthermore, students need to take 18 credits of minor study or 15 credits of free electives offered by SHTM or other departments/schools within the University. The components for a minor in a discipline can consist of either elective subjects or both elective and compulsory subjects.

In addition to the 124 or 121-credit bearing academic units, this programme requires seven mandatory training credits, i.e., 6 training credits of Work-Integrated Education (WIE) and one training credit of Professional Development.

For those applying on the basis of other local qualifications: An appropriate Diploma passed with credit or a Higher Certificate from a recognised institution; OR An appropriate Associate Degree / Higher Diploma from a recognised institution (suitable candidates will be considered for advanced standing entry to the senior year curriculum).Other local/non-local qualifications deemed to be acceptable for admission purpose: The University accepts attainments in HKALE / HKASLE, GCEALE / GCEASLE and IB for admission to its 4-year degree programmes. Applicants holding A-Level and IB qualifications will be granted credit transfer upon admission.
