第一题：

Describe an interesting or unusual thing you did recently in your free time.

You should say:

what you did;

when and where you did it;

who you did it with;

and explain why you think it was interesting or unusual.

本题的难点就在于我们真的很难界定什么事情叫做“interesting”，所以我们还是去讨论一下“unusual”会比较容易一些。

Sample Response:

Speaking of something unusual I did recently, I really want to say that I began to learn Latin. The first time I learned Latin was like 2 weeks ago after I registered an on-line course. I want to learn Latin because it’s an ancient language and it has a strong influence on many western languages including French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian and English. When I learn English vocabulary, I found there are many Latin roots and they are the foundation of many English words. Take “society” for example, it is made up by a Latin root--”soci”. After understanding that, I could easily learn words including “social”, “socialize”, “antisocial” and “associate”. It is a very effective and efficient way to learn vocabulary and why I decided to learn Latin. Unfortunately, there aren’t many people who are interested in Latin in China and many friends of mine found it unbelievable when I told them that I’d been learning Latin for a while. So I think, as a Chinese, it’s quite unusual. And that’s why I am still learning it alone. But I will continue to learn it and I do believe it will benefit me even more. 

第二题：

Describe an area of science you studied that you were interested in, such as medicine, physics or mathematics. 

You should say:

what branch of science it was;

when you studied it;

how you studied;

and explain why you were interested in it.

本题的难点在于要考生讲述一个自己感兴趣的科学领域的话题，并对学习的过程进行详细描述。对于理工科学生来，这道题简直就是a piece of cake，但是对于广大文科同学来说，大家真的需要事先做好准备，查阅资料和储备词汇是必备工作。

Sample Response:

Speaking of an area of science I studied and love, I really want to share my experience of learning horticulture. I am a big fan of gardening and plants; if I had a big garden, I would spend as much time as possible making it beautiful and productive. Horticulture is a natural science which combines botany, biology and ecology. I didn’t study it at school but borrowed a lot of books from library and taught myself. I have been learning horticulture for more than 10 years. As it is very practical, I also bought some plants and tried to sew and grow my own plants at home. I read books, watch documentaries and observe how my plants grow and take some notes. Seeing my healthy plants gives me a sense of peace and tranquility which is the best remedy for stress and negative moods. Besides, my knowledge of horticulture can help me choose the right indoor plants which can reduce the air pollution; plus I can also grow my own vegetables which are organic and tasty. 

第三题：

Describe a time you needed to use your imagination.

You should say:

what the situation was;

why you needed to use imagination;

what the difficulties were;

and explain how you felt about it.

这道题对于被应试教育折磨了许久的中国学生来说简直就是一个“不可能完成的任务”。相信很多同学都会觉得自己的“想象力”远远落后于国际水平吧。其实老师也是如此。不过我们还是找到了解题的突破口--大家只要多往“创新”、“实验”、“艺术”等话题上靠就八九不离十了。

Sample Response:

Speaking of a time that I need to use my imagination, I really want to tell you something about learnng painting. I haven’t learned painting when I was young but I always loved it. As watercolour and pastel illustrations are so popular, I want to become an illustrator some day. So I began to learn painting last year. In my first class, my teacher asked me to draw anything I like on the paper. I really was helpless and knew nothing what I could do as I had no knowledge of painting and colours. But I didn’t want to embarrass myself so I pushed myself to imagine, then I decided to draw several leaves of different species and shapes including maple leaf, ginko leaf, willow leaf and needle leaves of a pine tree. The most difficult part was I needed to think what the shapes of the leaves are and how to display them on the paper. After about an hour of hard work and imagination, I was quite tired but happy with the outcome when the teacher said that I was the students who had the most talents and potential. Now I can create something better and more fancier like fairy-tale theme illustrations. And I think I definitely become a person who is more imaginative and creative. 

第四题：

Describe a foreign country you would like to work in for a short period of time.

You should say:

where it would be;

how you got to know about it;

what you would like to do there;

and explain why you would like to work in this country.

这可能是全部四道题中最简单的一道了！不过这道题的难点比较隐蔽，就是考生必须要非常清晰地说明自己要去这个国家工作的原因，并且要给出理由和根据。平铺直叙是不能够打动考官的，他们需要的是一个“故事”，一个引人入胜的故事。

Sample Response:

Speaking of a foreign country I’d like to work in for a short period of time, I’d like to go to Spain. I read many books and watched a lot of documentaries so I learned Spain is a country with a long history, great art and strong economy. It’s located on the south of France with Portugal on its west. I want to be an journalist there as I can interview different people, write articles and make more Chinese people know more about that country. I want to work in Spain for many reasons. First of all, Spanish is the second most used language in the world. As a consequence, I really want to learn Spanish which will help me with my future career. Secondly, it is a trend that more Chinese go to Spain for sightseeing, education and even immigration. But they don’t understand the culture, language and society of Spain, so it’s very hard for them to communicate or live there. I can be a bridge of Spain and China and help more people to know Spain better and deeper.
