The Department of Political Science offers a wide range of undergraduate programs that are designed for motivated students who wish to excel. Graduates of these programs go on to pursue careers in many fields which may include but are not limited to business, government, public policy, international affairs, and law. Students who complete our Honors programs are well prepared for post-graduate study.

The combined degree programs are administered on behalf of the Richard Ivey School of Business and the Department of Political Science in the Faculty of Social Science. The combined program is a five-year program leading to a BA in Honors Business Administration (HBA) and a BA Honors Specialization in Political Science. In Years 1 and 2, students are registered in the Department of Political Science and follow the normal curriculum for the Honors Specialization module. In Year 3, students are registered in the HBA program.

Students in the combined program must meet the progression standards of each Faculty or School. Students enrolled in HBA1 (Year 3) must attain a minimum weighted average of at least 78%. In Years 4 and 5, students must attain a minimum weighted average of 75% in their 4000-level HBA courses. They also must attain a minimum weighted average of 75% in their Honors Specialization module and meet all other progression requirements of the Honors Specialization module in which they are enrolled.

Applicants must complete the full International Baccalaureate Diploma including each of the following to be considered for admission: Completion of the entire Diploma including the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay; Passes in a minimum of 6 subjects of which 3 must be at the Higher Level; A minimum grade total of 28 including points awarded for the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge; No mark less than 4 on any individual course; Prerequisites for your program as specified by Western. Other English Language Requirements accepted: Minimum score required on the TOEFL is 550 on the paper based with a 5 on the TWE, and 83 on the internet-based tests with no score below 20; Pearson Test of English Academic: A minimum overall score of 58 is required with no score less than 56; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): A minimum overall score of 80 is required with no score less than 78; International English Language Testing Service (IELTS): a minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no part less than 6.0; CanTEST: A minimum overall score of 4.0 is required with no part less than 4.0; CAEL: A minimum overall score of 60 is required with no part less than 60.
