Tackle the big issues around how we live together on the one planet, and gain a broad skill set and the essential knowledge for making a positive difference to your community, place, and world.
The Bachelor of Environment and Society is a flexible degree that allows students who have concerns about the major, often global, social and environmental challenges of today’s world to learn the critical skills to understand and confront those challenges and create, promote, and extend positive societal change.
Students have the chance to encounter diverse perspectives, such as historical, psychological, sociological, geographical and philosophical, and become graduates with wide ranging critical thinking skills which are in high demand with employers.
With global social, environmental, and indigenous issues looming ever-larger, the need for appropriately skilled, critical thinkers with a broad, multi- and interdisciplinary understanding is growing rapidly. The BES equips graduates to tackle the big issues and to be part of the solution.”

Summary of Regulations

All of the following:

Pass at least 360 credits (24 courses)
Pass all compulsory courses
Complete no more than 165 credits (11 courses ) at the 100 level
Complete at least 75 credits (5 courses) at the 300 level
Meet the requirements of at least one of the named Bachelor of Environment and Society majors unless otherwise approved.

Students can start in:
• Semester One (late February) or
• Semester Two (mid July)
There are also options for starting in summer semesters.

University Entrance through NCEA, or an approved equivalent qualification. International qualifications. GCE ‘A’ Levels A minimum of 3 results with at least 1 grade at Level C or above. (General Studies is not to be used as one of the results.). English Language Requirements: IELTS academic score of 6.0 overall, with no individual component less than 5.5; TOEFL (iBT) overall score of 60 (with at least 18 in writing); Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) and First (FCE) overall score of 169, with no individual component less than 162; Pearson Test of English (Academic) overall score of 50 with no communicative skills score less than 42; NZ Certificates in English Language (NZCEL) Level 4 (Academic Endorsement); Lincoln University English Language LU EL 65%.
